The atmosphere at Dezzi Raceway was abuzz for both racers and spectators as the 10th and final round of the KZNRRC took place on Saturday 10 November.
Coming off a 1st place overall finish in their previous race in October, the AfriPart open wheeler, driven by Tony McCree, was positive as he went into Friday’s practice. The team had a clear mandate to finish second in the championship.
On the Saturday race day, the team qualified second, but team driver, Toni encountered problems in selecting gears. Upon closer inspection it appeared the welding had broken on the chassis. Unfortunately, this meant the team couldn’t continue racing. For the championship, the team finished 4th overall for the season.
“Going into 2019, we are hoping to come out strong and win the championship. During the off-season we will put much effort into fixing the engine and gearbox,” said Toni McCree. “The sponsorship from Afripart has given us a much needed boost to improve our racing.”
The first race of the 2019 season will be in February.
